Aesthetics (Art & Music)
Explore how Rivervale Primary nurtures creativity in Art and Music, from choice-based art lessons to music recording with GarageBand.
From heartfelt melodies to bold artistic expressions, our Art and Music programmes nurture every child's imagination and confidence across the primary years.
In our art classroom, imagination and creativity are transformed into meaningful works of art. Students take ownership of their learning through meaningful choices that spark creativity and personal expression. Whether selecting environmental themes for mixed-media collages, representing their families through sculpture, crafting personal messages in digital street art, or exploring social issues through Cubist-inspired portraits, students are encouraged to pursue ideas that resonate with them. This freedom to make creative decisions nurtures confidence, curiosity, and engagement, transforming each artwork into a unique reflection of the student’s voice, experiences, and imagination. Throughout the learning process, the artworks of our students, alongside their reflections in the artists’ statement, are also showcased in the Art Gallery.
In our music classroom, we lay the foundation for our lower primary students through exploring the sounds of Singapore and the world through songs, dance and play. In the learning process, they start to appreciate, create and perform music using classroom instruments and also through technology using Chrome Music Lab. At middle primary, students learn to play the keyboard and recorder, applying the fundamentals learnt in the earlier years. Our upper primary students continue their music journey by learning to play on the ukulele and cajon. They also learn about the real world applications of music through the GarageBand app where students are introduced to music recording and editing skills, enabling them to create and record their own music.
The learning of our students in Art and Music culminates in the annual Arts Week which showcases the artworks of our student, interactive activities in the Arts Hub and also recess music performances, enriching our school’s learning environment with vibrant artistic expression.
